Stop Drinking Before Something Horrible Happens
December 23, 2009
Group therapy is one very common way a lot of people have attempted to use to stop drinking over time. It works up to an extent, but you have to go the rest of that distance yourself. Think you can manage that? Because if you cannot, what you need to do is get in touch with someone who can help you with it. You have got to learn to see drinking as a disease, because until you know it for what it is, you’ll never be able to solve the problem. What I mean is that if you really want to stop drinking, you have got to treat it just like any other disease. When you are able to do that, you will be able to approach it with the serious determination that it calls for. If you cannot, you will only keep trying but never succeeding. Take it from someone who has been there and back again.
It is not about how strong you are. Quitting drinking has little to do with your willpower. You are addicted because now your body needs it. What you need to do is to get your body to stop needing it. that takes a bit of a process, but someone qualified can totally help out, especially when you are retaining them for a little fee. No matter how long you have been drinking, you begin to quit the very day you realize that you have a problem. Be under no illusion that is it a short walk though, because it isn’t. it is something that will challenge the very vestiges of your sanity, and will seem to you to drag on, and on, and on. If you are not mentally prepared for it, you will not get very far trying. That I can tell you with reasonable confidence.
You might need to try more than one approach to stop drinking. The first step to have to take, though, is admitting to yourself that it is one long journey. Also you need to acknowledge that that it might be one journey that you cannot take on your own. The rest you ought to leave to the professionals to work out with you. There are instances in which you can take some kind of medication that give you one hell of a hangover everytime you touch liquor. That way, each time you feel like drinking again, you are discouraged by the thought of that hangover. And if that cannot stop you, I really begin to doubt that anything else will. This might be a good time to start to search yourself.
If I can stop drinking all of a sudden, I’m pretty certain so can you. We don’t all have to have the same abilities, but willpower is not something you are born with, it is something you bring upon yourself when the situation calls for it. I mean, I don’t know if I am a miracle worker or something. I used to do so many bottles of liqueur in a day that I could no longer walk. And one day, just like that, I decided I didn’t need it anymore. So these days when I hear people say they find it hard to quit, I think they can’t be serious. Letting liquor influence your life is not just a bad idea, it is downright dumb. Because it never just stops at influencing you, it goes all the way and takes charge. And then one day comes and you want it ot, and it looks you right in the eye and tells you it isn’t going anywhere; deal with it. So you need to quit, before things start to get that interesting and that far out of hand? I think you just need to talk to doctor who makes that his specialty.
You probably did not have a clue what you were getting yourself into when you started drinking. Then it did not even seem like a big deal, ain’t it? But now, you seem to be having trouble breaking the habit. It’s alright; there are drugs you can take to help you quit drinking. Some you can buy over the counter, others you can get by prescription. But they won’t work unless you really want to stop. There is a lot that they seem to forget to tell you about the booze when you are just starting out with it. Right then it seems all cool and fun hanging out with friends and downing glass after glass. But alcohol abuse is only the beginning of a downward spiral that could easily be the end of you. You might think it easy to quit, but that is the devil’s lie right there. So you want to begin trying right away, otherwise you might not live to see the end of it.
